How to protect yourself from covid-19

A new strain of crypto-virus known as covid-19 has been discovered in several cities worldwide. The virus, first reported in Moscow, is believed to have originated in China and has since spread to Europe and North America. While many people have been infected with the virus and do not experience symptoms, there is no current cure for covid-19.

This blog post has outlined what you should do if you think you or a loved one has contracted Covid-19:

Wear a mask when out in public.

The CDC recommends that you wear a mask when outside, especially a mask designed to provide extra care, like the p2 face mask online, when in contact with others and near other people who have been infected. Covers can prevent the spread of covid-19 by blocking infected droplets from entering your mouth and nose. It’s important to remember that while masks provide some protection against contagion, they do not prevent all transmission methods!

Stay home.

While it is possible to transmit the virus even before symptoms occur, if you are showing signs of illness, it’s best to keep your distance from others until those symptoms disappear. Keeping a safe distance isn’t just enough. If you have been exposed and begin to feel sick, stay home until all symptoms have run their course and you no longer pose a risk of spreading the disease. Clean & sanitise often.

If you have a cold, do not go to work or school. Stay home and rest!

Use bleach on all hard home surfaces, such as countertops and sinks. Wash your hands with soap and water frequently throughout the day. If you are sick, avoid public places (mainly hospitals) as much as possible to prevent the further spreading of the virus. Don’t share cups or utensils with others because they could spread the virus through saliva on these items.

The best way to protect yourself from covid-19 is to wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitiser. The CDC also recommends that:

  • You wash your hands after using the bathroom, eating, touching animals, and handling trash.
  • If soap and water aren’t available (for example, when travelling), use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with at least 60% ethanol or rubbing alcohol.

Keep your distance from others.

  • Avoid close contact with other people, and avoid shaking hands. Do not share eating or drinking utensils or water bottles.
  • Avoid touching your face, as this may result in infection from the virus spreading through your hands to your eyes and nose.
  • Avoid crowds and public places where possible to limit exposure to potential cases of CoV-19 that could be present.

Avoid crowded places.

Avoid overpopulated places, especially malls and public parks. These places are usually very crowded during the summer, so stay away from them. If you have to go out, avoid large crowds as much as possible.

If you have family or friends in areas affected by the virus, try to stay away from them for now. You should also avoid taking trips to those areas until further notice. If you plan a trip to Mexico or Central America this year, consider changing your plans.
